Senior Field Support Engineer, Wellington or Auckland (Full-Time)
Join Systematic’s New Zealand team in a senior hands-on role supporting mission-critical command-and-control capability for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). This is a unique opportunity to combine technical depth, customer engagement, and real operational impact in a specialised environment, while working alongside a close-knit local team backed by global expertise and development opportunities.
The role
In this role, you will work directly with Defence customers as a senior technical specialist across training, support, and systems expertise. You will deliver training, provide advanced technical support, and act as a trusted subject-matter expert across the SitaWare C4I product suite. You will have the autonomy to manage your work, contribute to successful delivery outcomes, and help ensure customer needs are well supported as capability continues to evolve. For the right person, this is a chance to take ownership, build deep customer credibility, and make a visible contribution in a specialised and meaningful domain.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working with the customer and Systematic to maintain training needs, schedules and plans
- Develop agreed training deliverables, including learning management plans, training packages, delivery manuals, and training needs analysis reports
- Deliver standard and tailored training materials for administrators and end users
- Manage courses and deliver group, one-to-one, on-site, exercise-based, and online training for administrators and end users
- Conduct post-activity reporting and drive practical improvements across training, support, and delivery activities
- Support the setup, configuration, and use of SitaWare within customer C4I environments for training, exercises, and operational scenarios
- Build strong customer relationships and provide insight to support effective delivery, continuous improvement, and future capability development
About you
You will bring strong technical capability and experience delivering support, training, or systems integration in a Defence or similarly complex operational environment. Just as importantly, you will be comfortable working independently, solving complex issues, building trusted relationships, and contributing to improvements in the way work is delivered.
- A bachelor’s or master’s qualification in a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Solid experience in technical support, training, systems integration, or Defence-related delivery environments
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to deliver technical support, presentations, and training to different audiences
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and resolve complex technical or operational issues
- Understanding of NZDF or broader Defence terminology, use cases, and operational practices; military or Defence industry experience would be an advantage
- Experience working in agile environments; Scrum experience would be an advantage
- Technical knowledge in one or more of the following: Java, .NET, JavaScript, Angular, SQL, or XML
- Experience with IT infrastructure and platforms such as Windows, Linux, Android-based operating systems, Active Directory, database systems, XMPP chat, servers, and end user devices
