Contract Manager

Do you love working in the intersection between contract administration and compliance, commercial and financial management, and risk and compliance? Working in close relation to customers, ensuring performance management, governance and reporting? And could you see yourself do so in the Defence domain? We have a job for you!

  • Based in our Canberra office
  • Reporting to our Senior Project Manager
  • Must be an Australian citizen

The role

As a Contract Manager at Systematic, you'll take ownership of a newly established contract from day one, managing its administration, performance, and compliance across the full lifecycle. Your focus will be on ensuring Systematic meets its obligations, protects its commercial entitlements, and continually improves how the contract is delivered.

There may also be opportunities to contribute to contract formation and lifecycle activities across other contracts as they arise.

What you will do

  • Administer all contractual obligations, ensuring delivery meets customer requirements and maintaining a clear, auditable record of commitments met.
  • Monitor internal performance against contractual KPIs, milestones, and obligations, escalating risks to the Project Manager when needed.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Business Development, and Finance to protect and recover Systematic's commercial entitlements, keeping milestone payments, approvals, and acceptance activities on track to support cashflow and financial performance.
  • Identify and pursue commercial opportunities within the contract, including variations, extensions, and additional scope, in partnership with Business Development.
  • Identify and track contractual, commercial, and financial risks and opportunities throughout the contract lifecycle, proposing mitigation actions for review by the Project Manager and wider organisation.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are clearly understood across the business and that non-compliance risks are proactively managed.

Your qualifications

We're looking for an experienced Contract Manager who brings both technical expertise and practical commercial know-how to a broad, commercially focused role

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience administering contracts from a seller or supplier perspective, including managing variations, performance monitoring, and change control.
  • Experience protecting and recovering commercial entitlements, including milestone payments, variations, and scope changes.
  • Sound understanding of the Australian Commonwealth procurement framework, including the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs).
  • Knowledge of ASDEFCON procurement and contracting methodology.
  • Experience managing the commercial and financial aspects of contracts, including milestone payments, cashflow, and cost reporting.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Please note: To work in  our Defence business unit you must hold, or be able to obtain, and maintain a minimum of a Baseline security clearance. More information about eligibility and the clearance process can be found here.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo background checks, including qualifications and police checks.
