Project Manager UK – delivery to defence customers

You will be a part of a growing, dynamic and experienced team, based out of a modern office at Farnborough airport with good routes and ample parking. You will also have the opportunity to work internationally with internal and client teams, with reasonable travel opportunities.


The UK based team delivers Defence Services to UK and Western Europe locations with a wider remit to provide support to other Systematic regions across the globe where practical. Our UK based team, established back in 1992, has now grown to app. 30 colleagues including a Senior Project Manager with whom you will work closely. You will report directly to the Programme Manager, who is heading the UK office.

 

 

Responsibility and tasks

 

Your overall responsibility will be to design, propose, project manage and co-ordinate the delivery activities between the Defence Services delivery team, the customer and our internal software development teams - to develop and deliver software COTS products and supporting services including specialist consultancy and training. The role includes line management responsibility for a smaller team of 2-5 employees.

 

Your everyday task will consist of:

  • Ownership of Services Project Charter to ensure services delivery is fully scoped and constraints and dependencies are defined
  • People management including people development and participation in recruiting for the team
  • Management and delivery responsibility of multiple agile projects in parallel Defence Service projects in UK and/or
  • Identification and monitoring of project risk (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies, Threats and Opportunities) planning and implementing of mitigation and/or contingent actions.
  • Management and coordination of project plans, estimates and schedules to deliver delivery projects to time and budget. Managing projects through KPIs, management briefings, business committee meetings etc.
  • Client engagement to support the derivation and capture of requirements and manage delivery engagement relationships with the customer.
  • Drive business development, including forming and scoping solutions, estimating and writing proposals

 

Preferred competencies

 

  • Motivated to join an agile team within a world leading SW supplier to the defence industry
  • Eager to make a difference with an optimistic, goal-oriented and encouraging approach towards other people
  • Works well in a structured way with focus on facts, analysis and logics – known to be reliable
  • Degree or HND in relevant field of study within IT/SW
  • Project Management certification like PRINCE2, APM or PMI
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical project manager role
  • Domain experience from the defence industry
  • Previous career in software and/or systems development
  • Client engagement exposure remote and on-site.
  • Experienced with tools like; MS Office, MS Project, Risk Management, Configuration Management

 

Minimum qualifications

 

  • Higher National Diploma of relevance
  • Experience with Project management tools
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical project manager role
  • Previous career in software and/or systems development
  • Interest in the defence domain
  • Experience with customer contact
