Commercial Legal Counsel for Systematic, UK

Do you have a passion for working in the interface between legal and commercial areas in a growing international IT company? Are you excited by the prospect of working with bids, tenders and contracts for our Defence and Healthcare business? If so, then we have just the job for you!

A highly skilled team with international growth ambitions

As Legal Counsel, you will be part of a highly professional and ambitious team in Commercial & Legal Services staffed by 22 employees, of which about half are Bid Managers and the rest Jurists/Lawyers. The team is international – based in Denmark, Germany and the UK – and this position will be the first of its kind at our office in Farnborough, UK, where we currently employ 22 colleagues and have high ambitions of growth.

You will ensure that our contractual agreements are respected and support our business with risk assessment

Together with the Bid & Legal team, you will be responsible for ensuring that Systematic takes the right contractual and commercial risks when we issue proposals, negotiate contracts and deliver under existing contracts. As Legal Counsel, you will identify the best solutions for generating the best possible value for the business, and you will be a key sparring partner for the business when it comes to contractual agreements and risks. You will also support the establishment of new partner agreements for subcontractors and advise on their contractual setup.

In addition, your work will involve the following tasks:

  • identifying risks and solutions in tender material in close cooperation with the business when submitting proposals.
  • handling contract negotiations with customers and subcontractors.
  • drafting, reviewing and negotiating IT contracts large and small – e.g. delivery agreements, teaming agreements, partner agreements and subcontracts.
  • supporting projects with legal assessments and support should legal issues arise.
  • drafting, maintaining and digitalising standard contracts, sales and licence terms etc.

A solid professional background and a sharp communicator

You will be our internal specialist within UK IT law and the go-to person when it comes to legal questions in a UK context. With your extensive knowledge and experience, you will be able to drive your own tasks and take responsibility for and execute on the tasks at hand. You are used to working independently and know when to involve your colleagues for sparring and support. You will preferably have experience working with contracts in the Defence sector, and in addition, you might have worked with IT- or construction contracts – however, this is not a requirement.

In addition, you:

  • hold an English Law degree.
  • have a minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts from an in-house legal department or a law firm.
  • are customer-focused and take pride in maintaining a high level of professionalism while at the same time being able to communicate complex legal matters regardless of the recipient’s background and across all levels of our organisation.
  • have a commercial and international mindset, and are driven by being close to the business where you are keen to make a contribution.
  • are curious, have a good technical understanding and are motivated by handling complex issues and contracts.
  • are fluent in both written and spoken English, and are happy working in an international environment. Additional languages such as German, would be an asset.

Practical information

  • You will work in close cooperation with your colleagues in Aarhus, Denmark, and can therefore expect travel to Denmark two to three times a year to visit your colleagues.
