Business Development Manager for Defence

Are you looking for a role where you can utilise your naval or maritime domain experience and be a key player in strengthening Systematic’s business development activities? Then this is your unique opportunity to be part of an ambitious team that strives to make a difference for our customers and expand Systematic’s Defence business unit.
We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join us in bringing world-class defence command and control (C2) and interoperability solutions and services to Western Europe and North Africa with a strong focus on the UK market.

The job
Your primary focus as Business Development Manager concerns the business development of Systematic’s defence products and services related to IRIS and SitaWare in the Western Europe (WE) and North African (NA) markets. This includes both short-term tactical and long-term strategic knowledge of building relationships with and insights into local customers and their plans in the market place as well as influential government officials and industry.

Responsibilities and tasks
As Business Development Manager, you will report to the Vice President for UK/WE/NA Business Development, and your key tasks will include:

  • Achieving own sales targets and ensuring that the overall business unit sales targets are achieved
  • Formulating and executing business strategies which will result in comprehensive account plans that will be continuously updated in collaboration with the VP
  • Maintaining a deep knowledge level of our products and service offerings and being able to communicate this clearly to all relevant stakeholders
  • Interacting with customers, including representation at sales meetings, presentations and negotiations
  • Being responsible for supporting operations teams (local and at group level), and keeping the VP continuously and accurately informed of important activities and issues through regular and structured reporting
  • Participating in the further development of the products by providing the product/development teams with important information on how customers use and experience the products as well as their product requirements

What we are looking for
The successful candidate must have the following experience and skills:

  • EITHER: military experience in the command-and-control area of planning, operations or intelligence
  • AND/OR: military experience in the technical or acquisition fields of command and control
  • Naval or maritime domain experience is a must due to our current customer focus
  • Good knowledge of the defence IT market
  • Demonstrably strong network within the UK armed forces, at SO2 level and above

Preferably, the candidate also has:

  • 2-5 years of experience in business development and sales in the defence IT market in the region. An ex-serviceman or ’woman with no sales experience would also be relevant, provided they have naval or maritime expertise
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject

As an individual, you are extrovert and self-motivated with innovative ideas and strong interpersonal skills, and you are enthusiastic, driven and committed to achieving outstanding results. Your style is persuasive and cooperative with a positive attitude whatever the situation, and with both internal stakeholders and customers. You are able to see the bigger picture and think two steps ahead. You are seeking a longer-term role in which you can grow and develop your skills, potentially taking on greater responsibilities and seniority as your BDM experience grows. You speak and write English fluently. Additional conversational language skills would be a bonus – especially French, Spanish or Arabic.

Your main place of work will be in Farnborough, UK (with two days a week WFH possible when office commitments allow), but the job includes travel to other customer locations around the UK, Western Europe and North Africa.
