Software Architect: Agentic AI & Java, SitaWare Insight

Are you passionate about building sophisticated AI agents that solve real world problems? Join our Agentic AI team within SitaWare Insight, designing multi-agent workflows in Java and Python that power critical decision-making and help our customers get the job done faster and safer.

The job
As Software Architect on this team, you will combine deep software architecture expertise in Java with strong LLM and AI engineering fundamentals to shape the technical foundation of our AI-driven solutions. You will define the technical vision and architectural strategy that enable our product, AI agents and multi-agent systems to scale, while also designing and implementing the software solutions that bring this vision to life.

In short, you can look forward to:

  • Converting customer needs into robust software architectures for AI agents, multi-agent orchestration and RAG pipelines
  • Designing and implementing AI agents, including tool definitions, action groups and knowledge base integrations
  • Ensuring safe and predictable outcomes through human-in-the-loop design and guardrails, and building traceability and transparency into our AI-based solutions
  • Writing production-grade Java code with full test coverage, structured logging and robust error handling
  • Establishing and maintaining technology standards, and evaluating new technologies as they emerge

Joining the team
You will join a growing team within the SitaWare Insight program, close to 50 engineers, architects and testers across five Scrum teams, spanning Aarhus and Copenhagen. We are building a brand-new team around this role: an architect, a data scientist, five to seven developers and a tester, working closely with our Product Manager and UX designer. Java is our primary backend language, and we also work in Python for our AI tooling, and we collaborate with researchers to give our LLMs geospatial situational awareness, the ability to understand tactical maps and follow events across an evolving timeline. If you enjoy figuring out how to make new AI capabilities work safely and reliably in a domain where the stakes are real, you will feel at home here.

Your qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience in a software architecture role, designing and specifying system structures, interfaces and dependencies
  • Strong backend development experience in Java, and familiarity with frontend architectures such as Angular or similar
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, message queues and system integration patterns
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, and a solid grasp of how these fit into system architecture and deployment strategy
  • A proven track record of defining technical vision and architectural strategy that supports product scalability and evolution
  • Solid software engineering practices, including testing, logging, observability and version control, along with the ability to establish technology standards across a team

For more senior profiles, we are also looking for:

  • At least two to three years focused on LLM or AI systems, including architecting and overseeing the deployment of AI-powered applications in Java and Python
  • Deep understanding of orchestration frameworks, RAG architectures, vector databases, embedding models, hybrid search and tool-use/function-calling patterns
  • Experience designing multi-agent systems, including orchestration patterns such as routing, delegation, parallelisation and result aggregation
  • Familiarity with LLM evaluation frameworks and metrics, such as relevance, faithfulness and hallucination detection, and how to build evaluation and observability into system architecture

You should expect around two to four weeks of travel per year, giving you the chance to collaborate across our Aarhus and Copenhagen teams.

Please note that you must be able to present a clean criminal record and have lived in a NATO and/or an EU country for the past seven years as we work with security-classified projects. Read more here.
