Systematic - IT Solutions for critical decision making in demanding situationsSystematic - IT Solutions for critical decision making in demanding situations

Senior Software Developer- Defence

Are you ready to build software that has real-world impact? Join us in our mission to deliver world‑class defence solutions in an environment where your professional and personal development are top priorities. You’ll work closely with experienced colleagues, take ownership of critical features, and help shape products used by soldiers in the field.

You will be part of Team Bravo, within our Defence business unit (MobileX). Multiple teams collaborate on the app that is used by soldiers during their exercises. Team Bravo is responsible for developing and maintaining the chat area within the application – the communication layer that helps bring the strategy defined in higher‑level command centers directly to soldiers on the battlefield. The app runs on tablets, in vehicles, and on Android devices, and is widely used across NATO forces.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Full‑stack development of software applications with a frontend in TypeScript & Angular and a backend in Java
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and solve complex problems in an existing, large-scale codebase.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new features in close collaboration with our Domain Experts and UX Engineers.
  • Ensure high code quality by reviewing and inspecting the design and code produced by your developer colleagues.
  • Participation in build and configuration management – experience with Gradle is a strong plus.

You will join team Bravo, one of our Romanian teams (4 developers, 1 QA, 1 people & project manager), working in an agile setup.

What we are looking for:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in a similar role, working with Angular, TypeScript, and Java on full‑stack applications.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices (clean code, testing, code reviews, CI/CD).
  • Good knowledge of or interest in Gradle and build configuration management.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to thrive in an international, cross‑functional environment.

How you work:

We value how you approach problems and collaborate just as much as the technologies you know. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Takes initiative and is proactive in identifying issues and opportunities.
  • Is curious about the “why” behind requirements and can propose well‑reasoned solutions.
  • Is open to guiding and mentoring other colleagues and helping the team grow.
  • Is comfortable asking for and giving feedback, and sees feedback as a tool for improvement.
  • Is willing to support teammates and other teams, and to ask for support when needed.
  • Shares our passion for programming, is not afraid of complex problems, and is eager to keep learning.

If you want to contribute to mission‑critical software used by NATO forces and grow alongside a skilled, supportive team, we’d like to hear from you.

Please note that you must be able to present a clean criminal record and have lived in a NATO and/or an EU country for the past seven years as we work with security-classified projects. Read more here: https://systematic.com/int/careers/security-clearance/
