Test Engineer for Columna Flow

Aarhus, Denmark.

About the position

Do you want to help ensure the quality of innovative solutions for the healthcare sector? In the Columna Flow project, we invent solutions that enable healthcare professionals to focus on their core responsibilities. Our solutions optimise hospital logistics by locating and creating an overview of tasks and available resources locally as well as at hospital level. We work at the cutting edge of developments at utilising IoT in large Danish hospital projects, and our core solution is currently being used by most Danish regions as well as internationally in Scotland, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Australia.

As a Test Engineer, you will join a test team comprising two testers, a test manager and several interns/junior testers. Our primary responsibility is to ensure that we take a quality-conscious approach to our work so that our products make our customers happy. In your daily work, you will be part of a distributed development team with six developers located in Aarhus and Bucharest.

The Columna Flow project is part of Systematic’s Healthcare business unit, and you will be based in Aarhus, where you will work with approx. 40 skilled colleagues. The daily tasks are organised according to Scrum principles, and optimising the way in which we organise and work is an integrated part of working in the project.

Responsibilities and tasks

We strongly believe that incorporating quality is a collective effort that involves many different aspects such as development, architecture, operations, user experience and implementation. As a tester, you should apply your business perspective and critical mindset, and be prepared to spend time understanding the whys and hows of what we build to identify risks and establish how our products can be tested. At Systematic, we have a strong test culture and sound test processes in-house, and everyone is aware of the importance of testing. This enables you to focus on implementing a suitable risk-based test strategy for the changes you are involved in – and at a wider project level.

To ensure that all aspects of any changes have been tried out and meet customer expectations, your task is to identify test needs and define the test strategy together with the developers. Test execution is a joint responsibility between development, testing and other roles when relevant. We operate with a broad definition of testing, which involves everything from reviews, establishing sufficient automated test coverage, running and maintaining scripted and exploratory manual tests to including customers in acceptance tests.

Generally, tests should be performed as early on as possible. For this reason, it is an advantage if you have some degree of technical skills, as being able to interact with a REST interface, make database enquiries, work on a local environment, or generate suitable test data will make it easier to get involved early. As we are working to increase our automated test coverage, it is also an advantage if you have experience in writing automated tests and can engage in dialogue with developers about suitable automation strategies at the change and solution levels.

As a tester with the Columna Flow project, you are able to influence your daily work to a considerable extent as well as the way we work in the project in general. We have a flat organisational structure, and suggestions for improvements are always appreciated. Based on your interests and competencies, the position can be tailored so it has a technical/automation focus – or a more business-oriented one.

Your daily tasks will include:

  • Preparing tests of new functionality, including early test design and risk assessments, and identifying test environment needs
  • Sparring with developers on suitable test strategies
  • Implementing and executing manual and automated tests
  • Reporting, managing and verifying defects
  • Taking part in executing system tests and occasionally acceptance tests with customers
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the project test framework and strategy

Preferred competencies

  • Passion for testing quality products and inspiring others to do the same
  • Business perspective and critical mindset
  • Background in computer science, engineering or similar
  • Experience with or knowledge of automated testing
  • Basic understanding of system architecture, integrations and frontend and backend testing
  • Good communication skills

In addition, it would also be a plus if you:

  • Are quality-conscious and prepared to speak out if quality is compromised
  • Are outgoing and good at building relationships
  • Take an analytical and structured approach to your work
  • Have experience in one or more of the following technologies:
    • SQL, REST clients (e.g. Postman), Teamcity, Android, Selenium testing framework, Docker
  • Dare to challenge how we work and suggest ideas for improving processes or the technical set-up
  • Possess min. 1-2 years of experience as a tester – but if not, please don’t hesitate to contact us anyway

Required expertise

  • You are fluent in Danish and English, both written and oral
  • We work with security classified projects and, as a Systematic employee, you require security clearance. For more information about security clearance, please visit: https://systematic.com/en-gb/careers/security-clearance/
