Software Development Manager for Bespoke team

Do you thrive at the intersection of leadership, technology and real-world impact? In this unique role, you will lead and manage a highly skilled software development team delivering bespoke solutions for complex defence systems.

The role: Leadership, software development and stakeholder engagement
As Software Development Manager for one of the Bespoke Software Development  teams, you will lead the development of customer-specific modules and system integrations for the SitaWare product suites. These modules extend our commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software with capabilities such as system-to-system communication, tactical radio and sensor integrations and support for operational needs in complex defence environments.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Project management: Plan and track capacity, schedules, risks, issues and deliverables. Report progress and drive corrective actions when needed.
  • Stakeholder collaboration: Align with internal and external stakeholders on expectations and outcomes, including input to the Defence bid process.
  • Team leadership: Motivate and develop your team across locations. Conduct one-on-ones, performance and development talks and lead recruitment.
  • Process improvement: Continuously optimise software development life cycle processes, involving experts across the organisation as needed.

The team: Join and lead a Defence Services Bespoke team
You will manage a cross-functional team of 10–12 highly technical employees, including software engineers, software architect, test engineers and interns.
Bespoke software development is part of the Defence Services organisation and the team is located both in Aarhus, Denmark and Poland. The team works on bespoke modules as sub-deliveries within larger customer contracts. The work spans system integration (e.g. tactical radios, third-party APIs), hardware communication (e.g. radar and sensor) and ongoing module maintenance as per customer agreements.

You bring: People leadership experience and a solid software background
We are looking for a leader who combines a strong technical foundation with the ability to develop and inspire a team. We expect you to be confident at managing software projects and experienced in guiding cross-functional teams toward clear goals. Your background includes hands-on software development as well as leadership in a delivery-focused environment. Your communication style is clear, structured under pressure, and you take pride in building both people and solutions. A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field is the foundation of your academic background.

We are also looking for:

  • 2–3 years of experience with people leadership, including employee development and performance management
  • 6–10 years of experience in software development, ideally with system integration or commercial product focus
  • experience with language, framework, tools and practices within the software development life cycle from Jira, Confluence, Java, Docker, Bitbucket, SonarQube to coding practices, CI/CD pipelines etc.
  • strong project management skills, including stakeholder engagement, reporting and issue and risk management
  • fluency in English, and you are comfortable working across distributed teams

Please note that you must be able to present a clean criminal record and have lived in a NATO and/or an EU country for the past seven years as we work with security-classified projects. Read more here.
