Systematic - IT Solutions for critical decision making in demanding situationsSystematic - IT Solutions for critical decision making in demanding situations

Legal Counsel

Do you want to turn complex regulation into clear, practical guidance that makes a real difference across a growing international software company? As Legal Counsel in our Regulatory Compliance team, you'll be at the heart of how Systematic navigates GDPR and AI regulation - advising colleagues across the business and helping shape the frameworks that keep us compliant and confident.

The job

You'll support the daily operation of our regulatory compliance programmes, with a particular focus on GDPR and AI regulation. Working closely with our Director and a highly experienced team, you'll translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance that business units can act on - while also contributing to the documentation, governance, and controls that underpin our compliance frameworks.

In short, you can look forward to:

•    Providing first-line regulatory advice to business units on GDPR and AI regulation and their impact on contracts, security, and internal policies
•    Reviewing and negotiating data processing agreements with customers and suppliers
•    Administering and continuously improving our GDPR compliance programme, including preparing risk assessments, DPIAs, TIAs, LIAs, policies, and procedures
•    Supporting incident response processes, including personal data breaches and follow-up activities
•    Helping deliver compliance training and preparing documentation for internal and external audits
•    Contributing to annual recurring tasks and driving continuous improvement of existing processes in close collaboration with the team.

Joining the team

You'll join a specialised and experienced Legal & Compliance team of 17, including 12 legal professionals; attorneys-at-law, jurists, and law students - based primarily in Aarhus, with colleagues in London, Cologne, and Bucharest. The team works closely with business units, IT Security, Audit, and internal IT across the organisation.

This is a role with real breadth and visibility. From day one, you'll engage with colleagues at all levels and across all parts of the business - and over time, you can develop deep specialisation in AI regulation and GDPR, with the organisation actively supporting further certifications, education, and attendance at industry events.

We work closely together and value team spirit, a culture of open dialogue, and an informal tone. We’re also a social team that genuinely cares about each other and enjoys spending time together.
But beyond the perks, what many colleagues highlight most is the work-life balance. We believe that sustainable performance is built on well-being, and you’ll find a culture where that belief is felt in everyday life, not just written in a policy.

Your qualifications

•    Master’s degree in law (cand.jur. or equivalent)
•    Minimum four years' experience working with GDPR in a compliance, legal, or regulatory role - preferably from a law firm or within the tech, IT, or software sector
•    Strong command of GDPR mapping, documentation, and compliance processes - you know your way around a DPIA and can structure a robust compliance framework
•    Decisive and confident in your legal judgements, including when engaging with senior stakeholders - while remaining open to sparring and bringing a pragmatic, business-aware approach
•    Fluent in Danish and English, both written and spoken
•    Experience with or a keen interest in AI tools and regulation, with a desire to share knowledge and keep developing in this space
•    A relevant data protection certification such as CIPP/E or CIPM is an advantage, as is experience with GRC software.

Please note that you must be able to present a clean criminal record and have lived in a NATO and/or EU country for the past seven years, as we work with security-classified projects. Read more: https://systematic.com/int/careers/security-clearance/
